What are the new ways to make money in 2012? Despite the troubling times we are all facing, one basic rule for success has never changed: figure out what people both want and need, then offer a quality, affordable product to fill that need. Doesn't matter what the year or what the troubles are. If you can find that niche, you will make the big money - or at least money big enough for your needs. Outside of inventing the newest Post-it Note or late night infomercial, the majority of us are really left with only a few viable options; real estate, affiliate marketing, publishing (either a book or informational advice), or the Stock Market. I am a great believer in the different or multiple streams of income school of thought but you have to start somewhere and concentrate on one area at a time for the best results. I think the easiest arena for most of us to begin with is with the internet affiliate marketing concepts that have become somewhat commonplace. However, just because they are commonplace does NOT mean that the market is flooded with GOOD ones! The task here would be to identify the programs that are competent and involved enough to help you find new ways to make money in 2012.

First of all, though, if you have expertise in a certain area by all means capitalize on that first if it is in an area that is in demand. If you have the expertise, you could publish a newsletter for subscribers. This could even be about a hobby or pastime that you truly enjoy. Imagine getting paid for that! If you don't consider yourself expert enough in any particular marketable field, you need to then find a quality product to promote. For that, you search the internet for legitimate products for home based businesses. When you find them - and they are out there - you can research both the site itself and the programs they offer to see if they are worthy of your efforts. I generally do that by seeing if I can find them on the Better Business Bureau website.

Not everyone makes it in affiliate marketing primarily because one needs the right training and mentoring so that you don't waste your time and money. Moreover, it is still the offering of a quality, affordable product that will make the profits for you.

The process is threefold: first finding a quality product, getting set up, and then getting paid. There are many things to consider but the three biggest points in trying to find a quality site/product are: 

• Find a site that offers quality products for little or no money down and offers both mentoring and training programs. They are out there! Look for things like legitimate home based businesses or whatever other ideas would be most important for you to have in your own business plan. Check with the company to see what name they are under on the BBB website because it may or may not be exactly the name of the site you are evaluating.
• The program needs to offer a good, preferably free, mentoring and education program. This is usually accomplished through weekly and recorded webinars.
• Be sure they have competent and reachable customer service and answer questions in a timely manner.

With regard to getting paid for your efforts, one of the most attractive aspects of affiliate marketing is that income is usually automatically recurring. More on that another time but what it basically means is that you do the work only once. Once you are setup with the right program, you don't have to repeat the same efforts over and over again but simply build on what you have done already. It is important to keep in mind though, that even with the best of efforts, it will not come together overnight. Keep at it.

One other advantage of the affiliate marketing programs is that once you have established yourself, you can, if you wish, move into another area of differing or multiple income streams. The program will give you the time and the opportunity branch out if that is the way you wish to go.
