Affiliate marketing involves marketing a product from another online merchant. This merchant will pay you a commission every time you sell their product. It is an easier route to take into Internet marketing than coming up with your own product to market.
You'll have a ready-made product on your hands. Which means you won't have to invest any money in making, storing or shipping your own product. All the efforts and headaches associated with making your own product and customer support are also gone.
As an affiliate marketer, what you'll need to do is to find a product to market and then do all you can to market it.
There are a number of steps you'll need to take in affiliate marketing. In this article, I'll outline them and go into more detail in my other articles.
1) Find a profitable niche. This is the important first step where you find out where the hungry customers are. Look for keywords that attract a lot of searches in search engines like Google or Yahoo. These are the terms that people are searching for online and if you're able to give people what they want, they'll buy from you.
2) Find an online affiliate marketplace. These are networks where online merchants go to recruit their affiliates. Some examples are Commission Junction, Amazon, ClickBank. PayDotCom where you'll find lots of affiliate products which you can market.
3) Choose a lucrative affiliate program. Pick an affiliate program that offers you a higher commission, preferably over 50%. Also, programs which are popular with affiliates are the ones that sell well. These typically offer affiliates lots of promotional tools to help them with their marketing effort
4) Set up your website and hosting. While you can opt to send your visitors directly to the merchant's site, it's preferable for you to set up your own website or squeeze page. You'll at least be able to capture the details of your visitors instead of losing all contact with them.
5) Drive traffic to your website. There are many ways of getting web traffic, both free and paid. These include article marketing, pay per click advertising, video marketing, forum marketing, blogging and Search Engine Optimization.
As a form of Internet marketing, affiliate marketing involves less costs and effort than marketing your own product. You won't have to pay a cent for manufacturing, warehousing or shipping. You won't have to worry about these matters as the online merchant will take care of everything. What you'll need to concentrate on is driving traffic to your website, marketing your affiliate product and building an email list for selling to your customers over and over again.
